Brighter rugs
To keep your colors bright on curtains or on your fiber type rugs, wash them in a saltwater solution.  The salt will loosen dirt while bringing out the best of your colors. When you want to clean your rugs before laundering them you can put them out on the patio, make a saltwater solution in a bucket, and rub the rugs with a broom for a pre-clean wash.

Ink stains
No matter how careful we are, there is always one piece of clothing that we own that ends up with an ink stain on it.  To remove ink stains from you lightest colored clothes, rub a mixture of lemon juice and salt on the area, and then place the item in the sun to dry for a few hours. If it is not a sunny day, you can leave the clothing sit overnight to dry before laundering as usual.

Blood stains
Accidents happen, and to remove blood stains from clothes soak the clothing in cold saltwater overnight and then launder as usual.  After you launder, but before you dry the item, boil a pan of water and boil the item for just a few minutes. You can only use this method with clothing that can take the high heat of boiling, refer to the clothing tag to be sure.

Yellowed cottons
To brighten your yellow colored cottons or linens you can boil the articles in a water, baking soda, and salt solution up to one hour.  But be careful when using an open flame so you don’t catch the clothing on fire as you are attempting to put it in the pot.
